Side is where ancient ruins and a lively seaside town meet. You walk past Roman columns on your way to lunch, and the old town ends at the harbour.

What you will see

  • The Temple of Apollo: its columns stand right at the water's edge. It is the most photographed spot in Side, especially at sunset.
  • The Roman theatre and the city gate: you pass them as you enter the old town.
  • Side Museum: a small museum inside an old Roman bath, with statues found in the area.
  • The old town: lanes of shops and cafés leading down to the harbour.

Lunch and shopping

Side has many restaurants by the harbour and along the beach. It is a good place for a long lunch on a rest day, and for shopping: leather, textiles and souvenirs.

Tips for golfers

  • Plan for half a day. Arrive in the afternoon and stay for sunset at the temple.
  • The Manavgat waterfall is close by and easy to add on the way.
  • Allow at least half a day to see the ruins and the old town.
